Question by Mark L: What is the simplest Asian language to learn?
Hi I’m Mark and I have been learning French and Spanish for a long time and now I reckon it would be really helpful to learn an Asian language. Though i have heard that they are very hard because I will have to learn a completely different alphabet for most (if not all) of them, so I don’t know if I have the patience. What do you reckon is the simplest Asian language to learn/quickest to get used to?
Thanks in advance,
Mark

Question by : which is the simplest Asian language to learn?
I am soon going away on a six month transfer to Hawaii. I have heard that the public schools there are very simple compared to my current private school and as such, i figure that i will have a lot of free time. A lot of my friends back home are Asian, and I tend to feel left out when they speak and I cannot know it.
I am of European downward gradient and enrolled in Spanish 3 so I can say honestly that i am a complete beginner with the oriental languages. Being asian on the inside as i am, i delight in anime, manga and korean music but cannot know any of it unless it has subtitles.
Recently someone teased me, saying that i should not listen to this sort of thing unless i really have an understanding of one or more of the three main asian languages in my area (Mandarin, Japanese, and Korean). So during my transfer, I was thought that i may possibly learn one of these. I am a quick learner and very studious, and i do not want to bother with learning the writing. My friends tell me that i have an aptitude for adopting foreign accents (not with english–i mean when i speak the language, i sound like i am really fluent).
So, which language will be the simplest and most useful to learn: mandarin chinese, japanese, or korean? (japanese is the most ordinary of these in hawaii, but chinese is the most ordinary where i live). help me delight!

I am looking to learn both Spanish and French, but don’t want to take the formal classes, which I didn’t retain much from when I had them in highschool. I am looking for conversational learning that is simple to pick up.
