This is for someone in Honduras who wants to end her preliminary schooling and ultimately receive a High School Diploma. In view of the fact that she is outside the USA it doesn’t matter where in the world the school is located. She doesn’t speak English the courses must be offered in Spanish

Question by Stew: Fantastic books to learn Spanish?
I have a friend appearance to visit from Spain in a few months who I believe is bringing their boyfriend. I don’t know for sure if he speaks english so I’d like to at least be able to say some things to him in spanish. Anyone know of any really excellent, simple to know spanish books or programs that I may possibly learn quickly from? It would also be fantastic if they weren’t too spendy.
Thanks for any help you can give!

Well, I found “Teach Yourself Beginner’s Spanish” by Mark Stacey and Angela Gonzalez Hevia for around $ 3.00 I believe used (but looks groundbreaking new) on Barnes and Noble’s web site.
Another one that I got there for about $ 5.00 I reckon was “Spanish Among Amigos: Conversational Spanish Beyond the Classroom” by Nuria Agullo.
Really, I got over $ 400 worth of learning equipment for less than $ 60 there…you just have to make sure you look for the used section, though neither of the books new prices are higher than $ 25. The first was $ 9 groundbreaking new and the other was $ 21 (rounding up).
In view of the fact that you’ll be speaking to a friend and her companion, you might want to go with the “Spanish Among Amigos” if you only get one book because it is more informal, meaning you won’t look bothered when speaking to them.
Go to Youtube if you don’t know the proper pronunciations and listen to how the alphabet sounds…and how each letter sounds within terms (which is usually the same unless accent dictates otherwise).
I’m using a free site to learn basics aptly now. Licketysplitspanish.com. I don’t use their pronunciation guide (“listen how it sounds”) because the person doing it speaks too quickly, and it sounds like he’s adding a “guh” sound to terms that shouldn’t have them…but the written aspect is what I am looking for…you may want to try that as well. And a site like LiveMocha.com, which I haven’t used, but have been hearing excellent things about, is designed to let you speak to native speakers to gain practice and tips, and help you fix mistakes you might be making.
Hope these help! Excellent luck!
